If you were to Google “How to run a great aquarium business” you would get over 134,000,000 results within the quick space of .36 seconds. And you’ll find everything there from tips and handy hints on how to set up and run a great aquarium.
But what almost none of them fail to identify is what exactly makes an aquarium outstanding.
Eastwood Aquarium is brilliantly set up and has a fantastic range; they only stock the best quality saltwater fish, freshwater fish and corals from Australia and around the world, as well as fish tanks.
And to make it even more outstanding, they’ve got the best prices that I’ve come across. Quite frankly they’ve got absolutely anything and everything that floats to make a great aquarium. You won’t need to go anywhere else.
However, almost none of the Google searches identified the three most important aspects of what makes the Eastwood Aquarium super special.
As best-selling author Jim Collins of ‘Good To Great: ‘Why Some Companies Make the Leap…and Others Don’t’ identified that there is more to make a business a success.
First and foremost is the PASSION of the business owner. Samual Ng is so passionate about his business it exudes from him in everything he does. The reason that he got into the business, was, well to follow his passion; and how many of us get to do that? He has a gift for what he does and the passion is so potent it’s almost contagious; I wanted to just jump right in there with him!
When I interviewed him he spoke about his dream of opening an aquarium. He’d had a successful career in banking until the age of 32 and then he threw in the towel, to pursue his passion. I admire somebody who can take the leap and just do it!
I watched him from a distance and you just can’t help liking this guy. I saw him dealing with his clients and each and every one of them were inspired by him, and they clearly liked him; he knows what he’s talking about, he loves what he does and that comes across in every interaction he has!
As I’ve said, he loves what he does, and he wants to share his passion with the rest of the world; so when you take a turn at the Eastwood Aquarium, you’re in very good hands.
But that’s not all that makes Eastwood Aquarium special; the second aspect is being the very BEST IN YOUR FIELD. Samual is running a world-class operation. Let’s face it, running an aquarium is highly competitive and people come from all over NSW, even from Canberra and Brisbane to deal with this amazing man.
This doesn’t happen by accident…not only does he know what he’s talking about and has a great rapport with his clients, but he’s also got an excellent relationship with the divers. If you don’t have this, you aren’t going to have the best stock; and in turn without the best stock, you’re dead in the water. There is not a shadow of doubt in my mind that he has the best and most varied stock I’ve ever come across!
And this brings me onto my last point BEING PROFITABLE. Eastwood Aquarium is a profitable business. What’s the point of running a business that you’re passionate about but you’re not reaping the financial rewards? Well there’s no point really. But this can’t be said about Samual. The reason I know this is due to the fact that the previous owners weren’t reaping in the rewards.
Two years ago, before Samuel took over the business; this shop looked as though it just barely existed. Now it’s busy and has a good turnover of fresh stock. As Samual comes from a financial background, I can only imagine that he brought the financial discipline and know how that he’d learnt in his previous life with him to make Eastwood Aquarium a success.
The thing I liked the most about Samual was the fact that he is incredibly humble. He’s a father of one, is so likeable, modest and has an incredibly engaging smile.
I’d really recommend you go checkout Eastwood Aquarium, even if you’re not into exotic fish and stunning corals. The experience alone is just so enjoyable.
