Let’s face it, we live in a pretty awesome suburb here in Marsfield and we’ve got some special people to thank for that.
The council workers, including the subcontractors, are those invisible people who keep Marsfield ticking over without missing a beat. We’ve got them to thank for how our suburb looks and of course works as well.
In my eyes, they are the unsung heroes of our town. Do you think they ever get a thank you for their hard work? I somehow doubt it. Of course they get paid to do their jobs, but the way they go about doing their work is not just about the money…they’re doing it because they genuinely care in my opinion.
We don’t even know half the things that happen in the background so we can continue on with our great lives, and I feel it’s time so say a big thank you to them.
So what do they really do? Well quite frankly it’s a lot!
Not only do they collect waste, it is just so much more than that. Did you know that they offer a chipping and mulching service, right on your doorstep? Now that’s pretty handy. They also collect old TV’s and computers right from your home. You won’t believe this, but there’s even an old fridge buy-back service. To take advantage of this service you need to go to the Fridge Buyback website to see if you’re eligible for the collection service, and you might even get a rebate too!
They also run a programme called ‘Second Hand Saturday’ and these are garage sales. A garage sale is a brilliant way to get rid of unwanted stuff as well as save them from landfills, and you could even make a profit too. The council promotes your sale FREE, yes free, in the local press and they’ll give you all the information you need to make it a roaring success! How awesome is that? I think I might hold a garage sale myself, with all this great support.
But, there’s actually more. They offer a ‘Council Kerbside Clean Up Collection’. You get five scheduled clean-ups a year on designated dates. Place your stuff outside on the kerb on the Sunday before your date and it will be collected during the week. They will clean up one trailer load per household. That’s quite something.
There are also drop off collection zones for your convenience, check out the website to see where they are.
Besides all these services, they’re really passionate about greening our community and offer courses in things like composting and worm farming, cooking demonstrations with the end goal of helping you to save over $1,000 per year! They also have a tree management and maintenance programme, to make sure we’re as green as possible, the also look after the environment and our public spaces amongst many other things.
I believe that our council is very forward thinking and they deserve a huge round of applause for awesome work done around Marsfield!
